INDIGENOUS DOCTORS SAY HEALING TOGETHER IS IMPORTANT FOR INDIGENOUS HEALTH AND WELLBEING

The National Day of Healing has received strong support from the Australian Indigenous Doctors Association (AIDA).

President, Dr Helen Milroy, said that AIDA is working through a number of initiatives to improve the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

AIDA also strongly recognises Australia’s historical legacy as a continuing factor in current levels of morbidity and mortality in ATSI communities.

“The focus on healing for the entire nation is an important step towards recognising Indigenous Peoples’ past, said Dr Milroy.

“We need to acknowledge all our history and its ongoing impact.

“Healing together is also an important step towards reconciliation and a better future for everyone”.
